In this Latin scheme of work for primary schools, Philippus and his beloved horse Pelagus are part of an acting troupe travelling around Italy in the early 1st century BC. Key Stage 2 children will learn Latin as they follow the adventures of Philippus and his troupe. Through fun and varied activities, children will discover that Latin is so much more than a dead language.

“I teach Latin for one hour per week and looking at the course Philippus is, like a breath of fresh air.  My pupils enjoyed the section on verbs and enjoyed guessing their meanings and playing the game with the dice. Looking at the map of Italy sparked off a discussion about where some pupils had been on holiday in Italy. Pupils enjoyed learning the names of the towns in Latin as well. I have to say I find the course content excellent and I also enjoy the freedom it gives a teacher to follow the interest it arouses in the learners.”Lynn Dryden November 2025

” … the scheme emphasises repetition, retrieval and practice, with helpful reminders and guidance in the teacher’s handbook. It offers considerable support for teachers new to Latin.” Classics for All – Reading Room Book reviews
